I heard it again this morning. My dad whistling Honey (I Miss You). It started with Little Green Apples but it was Honey (I Miss You) that brought the message. My dad was mostly a quiet man; persistently and hauntingly quiet. Things haven't changed a lot since he passed away.
The Honey rendition, as whistled by my dad, was his non-verbal way of reminding us he was there and how much he loved all of us very much. Especially my mother. He really loved my mother. My sister and I were just along for the ride. The pecan tree he planted in our back yard is really huge now.
It was True Love that kept my dad in the same home for all those years. He wasn't into going away in search of something he knew he already had, True Love. I wonder if more people had True Love at the center of their Universe that maybe there wouldn't be so much traffic and pollution coming from people in trucks and cars trying to be somewhere else. Instead we would be happy with ourselves and each other just where we are. Like if we all just lived on local market produce and livestock; and we put our work into our immediate community, trading with neighbors and taking care of each other. That would simplify a lot of things.
So what did the deer have to say while I worked on this painting?
9/13/2007 Intention: Relax. Ground and center, connect with source. The flow continues and there is plenty. Witness: They are dancing deer, one is missing an antler and the sky is a little imbalanced. But I think they are getting settled into their odd prairie space. Aren't you deer? Deer: Are you kidding? This is all wrong! We need trees, shrubs, wildwood flowers. We're sitting ducks out here in the open. I: You've got a point. But I wasn't going to add any hunters, I swear. Deer: See how you feel white knuckling it in broad moonlight. I: I do it all the time... Deer: Figures, you artists are all nutcases. I: I reckon so.
9/16/2007 Intention: Relax. Ground and center, connect with source. I am with my old tree. Witness: Well, I guess I made some progress. You two look a little more connected to your scene. I started a couple of trees. Deer: There should be more. I: More? Like a forest? I'll try but you're a long way from home. Deer: And stars. We need a zillion stars in the sky. I: Gotcha. Anything else? Deer: Mama deer ain't supposed to have any antlers. I: Doh! I knew that. Sorry. Anything else? Deer: Give us a campfire. I: Oh yeah? Sure, but isn't that a little sophisticated for a couple of deer? Deer: Don't you remember? We love campsites. I: I reckon so.
9/18/2007 Intention: Relax. Ground and center, connect with source. Everything flows like syrup on a pancake. Witness: Ok my deer, you got what you asked for - more stars, less antlers, trees are coming soon, and now you have a red waning moon. Deer: What about the campfire? I; Oh yeah sorry. I forgot. I guess that's pretty important. Deer: Where have you seen the most deer in your life? I: Circling around a campfire I made. Deer: Yep, that was back in Tennessee. In fact, we demand more hills! I: Fine... Smokey's? Deer: Exactly.
9/20/2007 Intention: Relax. Ground and center, connect with source. Work and fun are one. Business flows and all is well. Witness: Wow, my deer, so close and yet so far. I got a good bunch of stars but I splattered you guys. Deer: Not a problem. You're almost there. Add a few more trees and you' be done. Add us to your online collection and blog about love in the waning moon. I: Hmmm. Sounds like an old folks subject. Deer: You ain't no spring chicken yourself! I: Yeah I guess you're right. But what can I tell people? Deer: How much better life can be with a soulmate! I: Yeah I guess I can do that. Deer: You're a lucky gal.
