Mission Statement

The Museum of Universal Self Expression is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit arts and social service organization. We provide a studio where a psychiatric survivor  may discover and develop his or her  own creative path. We provide a place where art making is practiced for personal growth and healing, communication, relaxation, and to bring about social change by eliminating the stigma associated with mental illness. By providing creative enrichment opportunities MUSE contributes to the arts with a variety of possibilities for the Chicago mental health community and beyond.

Project Proposal

The Museum of Universal Self Expression or MUSE, Inc. is a not-for-profit community studio and gallery serving the mental health consumer community in Chicago.  We are located in the beautiful & historic Pilsen neighborhood.  We serve psychiatric survivors who exhibit interest, and ability in fine arts, writing, music and other specializations.  We provide an art studio rich in craft materials, therapy & counseling, social services, and online gallery representation in order  to help facilitate the artistic careers and recovery Chappaquas for our participants.  MUSE, Inc. seeks funding through grants, fundraising, private donations and gallery sales.  Our 501(c)(3), not-for-profit status was funded through a grant from the City Arts Assistance Program through the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.
