Ancestor Quilt Project

The Ancestor Quilt Project consisted of designing and hand sewing pictures of family members, heros, animals, plants, or spiritual symbols onto old jeans denim panels using applique and embroidery.

Panels were then sewn together to create a quilt made of nine panels. This project was in progress for over 5 years. We saw Native American women artists come and go, some moved to other states or back to reservations, some moved into nursing homes or passed away. We showed our work as it was in progress at Powwows in Illinois and it gained notoriety within Chicago's Indian community.
